A New Chapter of Leadership at World Urban Parks

Welcoming new leadership to guide the global parks movement forward.

World Urban Parks (WUP) is entering a new and exciting phase in its history as the leading international network for urban parks, recreation, and open space professionals. With a growing global community and renewed strategic direction, WUP continues to strengthen its mission to connect, inspire, and support those who create and manage the green spaces that make cities more livable and resilient.Following the recent Board appointments, Mark Bowater (NZ), has been elected as the new Chair of the World Urban Parks Board, and Michael Boland (US), will serve as Deputy Chair.

A Message from the New Chair

“World Urban Parks is entering a new phase in its history as the leading international member-based organisation for urban parks and open space professionals. For me, it is an absolute honour and a privilege to take on the role as Chair of the Board, working with such talented and dedicated global professionals. My ambition is to focus on three key areas – respect for our past, implementation of our new Strategic Plan, and growing our young professionals. The year ahead looks exciting as we continue to grow our membership and add professional value for our members.”
Mark Bowater, Chair, World Urban Parks

Together, Mark and Michael will guide the organization’s strategic vision, strengthen partnerships, and continue promoting excellence and innovation in park management and urban nature worldwide.

Stay tuned for updates as World Urban Parks moves forward with renewed energy and purpose — connecting professionals, celebrating great parks, and building more inclusive, sustainable, and nature-rich cities for all.

We are also delighted to welcome our new Board Members, whose experience and perspectives will bring fresh energy and insight to our organization:
